Kubrick

December 26th, 2004 | No Comments

I’ve just made the change to Kubrick. From the rather bland design and simple title, random thoughts

my blog is now known as ROUGH GROOVE.

For a few weeks now, I’ve been planning of adopting the Kubrick template by Michael Heilemann for WordPress 1.2 Mingus which allows an easier way for customizing the blog header like placing an image by way of Photoshop editing and much much more. And so, a few nights ago, I started to work on this by installing a trial blog at my old domain salagubang. While using the template and then changing the image was very easy, the blog title would not just come off. Reading Podz’s Wordpress Guides gave me an idea of what to edit in the wp-layout.css file:

From
h1, h1 a, h1 a:hover, h1 a:visited, .description {
text-decoration: none;
color: white;
}

to
h1, h1 a, h1 a:hover, h1 a:visited, .description {
display: block;
text-indent:-500em;
text-decoration: none;
color: white;
}

This was enough to move the blog title out of the image and still retain the hyperlink. However as the clickable area of the header title was small, I changed this one (same file):

From
h1 {
font-size: 4em;
text-align: center;
}

to
h1 {
font-size: 10em;
text-align: center;
}

Now, the clickable area is wider. But I would prefer to have the whole header image clickable.

By the way, the photo above was taken early morning when the mists haven’t yet totally lifted during my Holy Week sojourn in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte this year to collect beetles and do some photography work.

I’ll be making changes and will be reading the Kubrick support group in the next few days to further enhance the site.

Jog

I set my mobile phone alarm 0430H so that I can jog. The time came, I woke up, turned off the mobile and closed my eyes. When I woke up, it was already 0630H. Darn. Some other day I guess.

Xmas at home

December 25th, 2004 | No Comments

My Christmas eve was spent at work last night and I was able to come home at around 1400H today. When I arrived, my cousins were already in the sala looking at their gifts. As for me, I only received two: one from a colleague through an exchange of gifts at the office two weeks ago (2 DVDs and one local VCD) the other from my amour: the new edition of Lonely Planet and a VCD that I requested a while back :-). Here, none at all. Instead of giving them individually, I texted them earlier this lunch that said:

“In view of Auntie Lorna’s condition, I’ll be contributing my gift to you for her chemotherapy and med. This way, our xmas will be more meaningful. Happy Xmas!”

Not much feedback or reaction received from my cousins. Just an okay and a single “Thanx, meri xmas.”

Anyway, its still good to be back home and celebrating the holidays.

Home for the Holidays

December 24th, 2004 | No Comments

Its good to be back in Cebu! All five of us who were transferred to Makati were told to have our Christmas and New Year duties at our respective provinces. While we will still be working during the crossover (24 - 25 Dec and 31 Dec - 1 Jan) were not complaining. We just saved mor than 5 thousand pesos worth of plane fare and were still being paid for travelling back :-)

Anyways, a Merry Christmas and a prosperous, peaceful and hopeful New Year.

Note: Pic taken at the side of the Redemptorist Church in Cebu. This is also the photo that I emailed to friends as a Christmas greeting.
