Closer - Mike Nichols

April 18th, 2005

Euphemisms:

A convivial fellow - an alcoholic
A person who values his privacy - gay
A person who enjoys his privacy - a raging queen

These and other witty lines delivered by the cast coupled with no nonsense grown-up story, superb cast and great acting makes this movie, adapted from a play by Patrick Marber, a must see. It explores the various feelings and nuances of emotions among four individuals entwined together: love, greed, hate, anger, infidelity, trust, deception and betrayal, a smorgasbord that is sure to explode but under Mike Nichols hand, a lovely and intelligent film sure to intrigue and delight cineastes.

Clive Owen (comes strong and perfect) and the just beautiful and sensual Natalie Portman shine but the photographer Anna (Julia Roberts, wielding a Leica M series!) and Jude Law isn’t far behind in delivering great performance.

I would want to watch this movie again.
