Pelicula - Pelikula, The 4th Spanish Film Festival
The 4th Spanish Film Festival opened last week, 28 September, at the Greenbelt 1 cinemas with Mar Adentro by Alejandro Amenabar. 26 films have been lined up for the fest that will end 16 October. What is great about this event is that the selection is diverse and highly esteemed: from Spain and Latin America with majority having won awards or have been nominated.
Other than the great movies offered, what I also like about watching these films is the wealth of words that are used and spoken in Filipino or in my dialect, Cebuano, and Ilonggo. Proof of the great impact of Spain in the Pinoy’s linguistic heritage.
Films that I have seen so far from Friday to Sunday:

Todo Sobre Mi Madre(All About My Mother) - Pedro Almodovar
I’m always awed by Almodovar’s films. Other than the great acting and cinematography, its the stories that are a main draw. His is somewhat offbeat but interesting. This film is a tribute to all women (and would-be women). Like in his other films that I’ve viewed (Hable con Ella and La Mala Educacion) gays or transverstites are a constant feature. Its also funny and one of the best films.
Hector - Gracia Querejeta
I like this one. Its about coming of age, coming to terms with the past, living the present and facing the future. I surely like the tips that Hector gives when cooking food.

Torremolinos 73 - Pablo Berger
A door-to-door encyclopedia salesman transforms into a film enthusiast then into a film director making and directing films with his wife in the name of science for the Scandinavian market euphemistically called an audiovisual encyclopedia of sex in the world. Unfortunately, he unwittingly fell for this. But then, the movie is a riot, funny and hilarious.
El Bola - Achero Manas
A drama about violence in the home, abusive fathers and caring friends. One of the best films I’ve seen.
Los Lunes al Sol(Mondays in the Sun) - Fernando Leon de Aranoa
Javier Bardem is just damn good!
I still have many more to watch. Just last night: Astronautas and Intacto. Tonight: Crimen ferpecto.
