Two funny movies and the upcoming Oscars

The Pink Panther - Shawn Levy

The story’s just shallow but you’ll have good laughs with this one. Saw it during the January - February celebrant’s timeout (part of company activities) last week. Never had I though that Jean Reno can also be goofy and can dance wearing tights. But hey, Steve Martin’s just good. A movie to zap out worries.

Fun With Dick and Jane - Dean Parisot

Here comes another funny albeit sarcastic movie with Jim Carrey at the helm. Watching it, you’re reminded that the film is based on what transpired at Enron and having that confirmed just before the end of the film. How I wish that the ending happened in real life. Makes you think that corruptions is not endemic in developing countries but that is also prevalent in developed nations on a much much wider scale.

I just checked the movie screenings today and Geisha as well as Syrianna is now screening. As for the next few days, I’ll be watching Munich at the Greenbelt 3. Good thing also that I was still able to catch the last screening of The New World last night although the movie theatre was not that good at Star Mall (the former Manuela) at Shaw, the closest movie theatre that’s still showing it.

The Oscars

Hmmm, RPN channel 9 has been advertising the Oscars live telecast (live? but with the commercial load, one can get the results before its over at this channel) on 6 March. It would be exciting to know who won the best film and best director. Already, Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain has been receiving critical acclaim in other award giving bodies (its really about two darn cowboys having nothing to do in the mountains but play with each other and how the sheeps got happy –> hehehe, its more profound than that. I’ll still watch this one while its still being screened). How about Munich? Or Good Night and Good Luck, Capote and Crash that are still to be screened here?

But it was also bad that the Philippines haven’t sent an entry even if it may not have been chosen. Its one of the prestigious movie award giving body in the world today and the country failed to participate. Tsk, tsk, tsk, I just wish that by next week, Aureus Solito’s Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros will be submitted and eventually win the much coveted Best Foreign Film.
