Just as the government is all set to battle the 38 year old communist insurgency that has been plaguing this country, beefing up its armory, capabilities, personnel, a declaration of an all out war, coupled with civic projects targeted at winning the hearts of people in most affected areas, here comes the NDF (National Democratic Front), the umbrella organization of the Communist Party of the Philippines, the National Peoples Army (NPA, its armed wing) and various leftist organizations, offering the resumption of peace talks that they themselves abandoned a few years ago when they were declared, especially the NPA, as terrorist organizations by the US and EU. That’s a smoke screen! They themselves declared that they will never resume the peace talks as long as Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is president.
Hmm, whereas the peace process of the MNL and MILF, are moving, that of the CPP/NDF has been constantly put on and off for quite a long time already. Much praised when it first started as a peaceful way of seeing an end to the rather violent past of encounters, bloody purges and tortures, it has been conveniently used by the CPP/NDF to further its own political agenda. Resuming talks when it sees it will be at its advantage and later putting it off once its existence is threatened. People are just tired of this on/off posturings and it doesn’t help that even with declared ceasefires, raids and ambushes, use of children in the armed struggle as well as land mines (whatever type of landmines they use and justify, these are still landmines that cripple and kill) continue. Now comes the offer of the CPP/NDF which many just don’t accept as a sincere effort on their part. It’s a virtual smokescreen to dampen or hamper the supposed all out war declaration of the government to stomp out once and for all the lingering malignancy that has been festering the Philippine way of life. Its just right that the government does not accept this latest bluff. It’s a long discredited ideology that has seen its more prominent proponent countries long discarded it and these people, headed by the supposed “consultant only” Jose Maria Sison, enjoying the comforts of his Netherlands exile while his army is slugging it out in the mountains and bloody encounters with the military.
Its just so irresponsible.
