stepping down as admin

December 20th, 2006

I stepped down two week ago as one of the admins of the Philippines Flickr Group due to some irreconcilable differences with one of the remaining 4 admins there. It all started with this thread. The first time it happened wherein the same firemouthed admin sort of bossed around one of the members in this thread, I just shut up without doing anything about it and ever since, I was ashamed of it. This time, it happened again with Nullend_void’s (his photoblog here) innocent posting in the group. This came about when during a Flickr Philippines meet for the planned photoexhibit this January, they were having a hard time coming up with a name for the group. The reaction of the concerned admin is just way off and another member, usclabdog, reacted to the comment of the admin. Unfortunately a few posts later, usclabdog was unceremoniously banned without justification or due process. I asked this admin about it and he just replied “read more.”

How unfortunate that in a vibrant and dynamic group that is the Philippines Flickr pool, where countless pinoys are finding a home in Flickr, this bossy attitude is being used to stifle opinions, humiliate and banning members just because he doesn’t want this kind of discussion without the benefit of due process or discussing it with other admins.
Well, now, that’s out of my system. Great.

Heard this from Jimmy during the xmas party, which turned out to be a really interesting one, for those who knew about ‘the issues‘. You did the right thing, man.
