Kiko is out
Its official. Kiko Pangilinan, after snubbing the Genuine Opposition’s sorties and proclamation rally last Saturday night, the opposition elders have spoken and decided to yank him out of the lineup. In the first place, the senator never really asked to be included and have always espoused his being an independent. It was the opposition, who was in a rush to fill in their slate, drafted two of the members of the Wednesday group of the Senate (Villar is the other one while Recto and Joker Arroyo joined the administration).
Both the administration and some members of the opposition voiced out their dislike with Kiko, the former, when, together with Drilon, a party mate, demanded the resignation of GMA while the latter, felt slighted when during the canvassing of the presidential ballots at the Senate answered the opposition’s complaints with “NOTED” (thus his monicker “Mr. Noted”) thus leading to GMA’s proclamation as president.
In a quandary as to where he should be, the offer of the opposition would have solved his problem considering that embarking on a senatorial campaign is quite taxing both in body, spirit and funds, he instead decided to maintain his being an independent but also welcomed too the adoption as guest.
But what I admire about this man is his principles. Unlike the other politician candidates who are turncoats, transferring parties at the flick of a coin to further their political ambitions (Tito and Tessie to name two) to candidates who are, in the not so distant past, were pro administration but are now sleeping with the ones they were against before, strange bedfellows indeed, here is one who thought it out and stuck it out with his principles.
Short lived as it may have been, Kiko doesn’t really need the support of the opposition. His decision to go it solo is admirable. With the backing of his oh so popular wife, Sharon Cuneta, now with a TV advert, he still got a big chance to make it.
