La Union, 5 - Balaoan

..continued from La Union, 4 - Luna

Just along the highway in the seeming busy town of Balaoan, is another imposing and beautiful church that is quite unlike the rest of the churches that I’ve visited in this trip or even in the rest of La Union that I’ve passed by, saw in books or visited:

First, the belfry is located a few meters from the church. This is unlike the rest of the churches I’ve featured in this trip wherein the belfries are integrated and are twin belltowers (Bacnotan, Luna and Bangar). The rest like San Fernando, Agoo, San Juan, Bauang, Naguilian and the original structure in Aringay which was destroyed by the earthquake in 1990, has the belfry right beside the church.

Second, its wider and its facade has a close affinity of some Ilocos churches like the ones in Tagudin and even Laoag.

Photographing this church, one has to use an ultrawide angled lens so that the gate and fence can be excluded. But even with an ultrawide, perspective correction has to be done in postprocessing.
