Atienza as environment secretary?
July 19th, 2007
Atienza New DENR Head, today’s PDI banner headline screamed and I was just shocked and couldn’t believe it. Lito Atienza, the former mayor of Manila whose environmental legacy in the old city is punctuated with closing and felling trees at the Arroceros Forest Park to give way to a teacher’s building will be the environment czar? PGMA must be kidding!
How does the president fill up sensitive government posts? Through a gilded tambiolo filled with the names of allies who lost and or done with their elective posts irregardless of their credentials and track record? One can just shake one’s head and shout:
POLITICAL ACCOMODATION!

its really quite disappointing. Yes, GMA is making headway in the economic front which I am all for but all these political baggages are just undermining her credibility all the more. and that is even a subtle declaration.
what can we do? express our views to our senators especially those who will be sitting on the commission on appointments.

I must agree, GMA really did her best to uplift our economy … the only problem with her… meron syang utang na loob na sobrang visible sa mga apointments nya…. tsktsktsk

i agree with you. i followed this on the inquirer online. there was a silent despair when they started bulldozing the area. then lately rejoicing when friends of this park learned that they had the park back with the return of mayor lim. there was a mass at arroceros park the first sunday after this pronouncement. a friend reported how saddened they were to see that 70% of the trees were gone, gone too the nursery for saplings.
then this announcement! what are we to do?
