cinemalayaticket.jpg Cinemalaya 2007, The Philippine Independent Film Festival opened last Friday night at the CCP with Dante Mendoza’s Foster Child. While we were not able to be there, we did manage to view one screening last Saturday and 4 last Sunday including 5 short films. This year, 9 full feature digital films and 10 shorts are in competition:

cinemalayaexhibit.jpgOther than these films, there are World Premieres, works from Cinemalaya 2005 and 2006 both full feature and shorts, Exhibition and Special Screenings as well as a film congress. Also note that for those who were not able to watch Heremias - Lav Diaz (9 hours) when it was previously shown, it is on exhibition, 29 July from 0900H - 1800H. There is also a small photo and poster exhibit of the competing films with some of the props used included. left. You can also check out Pinoyfilm.com for the schedule.

Tickets are at P100 but its also good that they offer a day pass of P300 for 5 films while P950 will give you access to any screenings during the duration of the film festival.

Besides watching works from the new breed of directors, cinematographers and scriptwriters, you get to see the actors, directors and their crew/production staff and sometimes seating beside or rubbing elbows with them. Think of it as a little bit of stargazing. During the weekend that we were at the CCP, we got to see Lito Cayetano, Zsazsa Padilla, Jason Abalos, Ina Feleo, Ping Medina, Mark Gil, Laurice Guillen, Behn Cervantes to mention a few. Too bad, Baron Geisler (Durog) didn’t arrive. I wasn’t also able to see Ricky Davao, the very talented Irma Adlawan and Sid Lucero.

I’ve also noted that there were many viewers, mostly young people who came to watch but as I overheard a group talking beside us, the crowds were bigger the previous Cinemanila since they were able to do more promotions in TV stations as well as schools.

Cinemalaya 2007 will close with an awarding ceremony on 29 July.
