Cinemalaya Shorts

July 30th, 2007

These are shorts about death, childhood and about drugs. I was only able to watch 5 out of 10 shorts that were screened in Cinemalaya 2007 and below are the following grouped under Shorts A:

Durog Liwanag sa Dilim Gabon To Ni Maikling Kwento

Durog - Tara Illenberger

Tripping on the wild side for that awesome hallucinogenic kick does have its potent and deadly side.

Liwanag sa Dilim - Lawrence Fajardo

I just love the cinematography. Its another film on drugs and death. However, it might be a little detail but you cannot play a violin with an untightened bow. The director should have contacted a real player so that it will be more believable than acting it out.

Gabon - Emman dela Cruz

The film maker proudly declared that his short (its more of a ghost story) was 16 years in the making. This is the only one featuring Muslims and was filmed in Marawi City. Its in Maranao with English subtitles.

To Ni - Vic Acedillo

Well, the innocence of childhood. To Ni, I presume is short for Sto. Nino, the image that became the boy’s toy and playmate during idle afternoons spent while waiting for his mother.

Maikling Kwento - Hubert Tibi

Dreams, growing up and Marcos.
