Additional charges on books ordered online
The two books that I’ve ordered at amazon.com two weeks ago have finally arrived and I just picked it up from the DHL office in Mandaue City. Since this is my first time to order from that online store, I wasn’t expecting that there are still custom charges amounting to almost 50% of the total expenses! I thought that what I paid was already inclusive of all charges but I was mistaken.
Anyway, I was looking for these two books: On Writing Well by Zinsser and The Elements of Style by Strunk and White as recommended from a travel blog that I’ve read. You see, I would like to improve my, ahem, writing.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t available in Powerbooks (only an audio book) or even at Fully Booked. I tried ebay.com which was cheaper by a few dollars but when I checked it out, the Philippines is not included in their list of countries that they accept credit cards. So, no option but to order at amazon.com.

You should try Cagnaan Booksales in Cebu for books on writing. I am surprised you got charged customs duty. There is none on books under RA 8047 and no vat either. So no duty should be charged especially on educational books, fiction and magazines are a different case.

Nakupo. Those added taxes and customs are a pain. Ang laki ng patong. Kaya best if me kakilala ka na uuwi dun mo ipa deliver.
Or if you have a branch of Johnny Air Cargo there mas mura going through their delivery. You’ll just send it to their address in the US and you’ll pick it up here for like 5-8 dollars lang
