Covering the La Naval canonical coronation centenary

October 17th, 2007 | 2 Comments

media-id.jpg Covering the centennial of the canonical coronation of the Nuestra Senora del Rosario La Naval de Manila at the Sto. Domingo Chuch in Quezon City for the coronation reenactment last 4 October and then the procession last Sunday is overwhelming. Overwhelming in a sense that it is quite tiresome and draining especially the procession. Despite having the media ID as official photographer gave me access to off limit places and thus good vantage points to document the action, I was literally exhausted with all the walking that after the activity, my blue shirt was sweat stained.

But being there, experiencing a great milestone and with all the faith and devotion of the people as well as the sacredness of the event, I was also ecstatic and happy. I can say that it was all worth the effort. Seen also at the event was Sidney Snoeck taking photos that I’m sure he will be posting in his blog soon.

I’m preparing a revised slide show of the two events and will be posting it soon. For the meantime, head over to estancabigas.com for a Soundslide presentation that I did for the 4 and 14 October events (reenactment and procession).

Pesky Baygon electronic mosquito repeller

October 15th, 2007 | 1 Comment

baygon.jpg Just when I was hoping of ridding the room of some pesky mosquitoes with this Baygon electronic mosquito repellent that promises to banish mosquitoes without harmful fumes and the whole mumbo jumbo and it just doesn’t work. Either its a dud or just pure empty promises. I was a lot more successful with their cheaper repellent but not this.I just regret getting this one and paying P175 for a nonworking device. Better if I got that spray instead.

Sub-$200 PC to be introduced by Lenovo

October 12th, 2007 | No Comments

It seems Lenovo has an ace up its sleeve with its planned introduction this year of a sub-$200 PC for the masses! Actually, it has been selling this kind of computer in China for about $190 and as what the CEO David Miller said, they are successful at it.

Will a stripped down PC version fare well here?

Pelikula Pelikula still ongoing at Greenbelt

October 9th, 2007 | No Comments

Pelikula Pelikula the 6th Spanish Film Festival is now on its second week at a theater in Greenbelt 3. There are still 18 good quality films that in one way or another have been nominated or won an award/s at film festivals in Spain, Latin Americo or in major festivals abroad.

Since Tuesday last week I was already able to view 7 films that were really great, thought provoking and wonderful, a change from the usual milieu:

utopia el aura

Utopia - Maria Ripoll, 2003 (Spain). Its a beautiful movie that focuses on a person’s ability to see the future, fate and making your own destiny despite what one sees will happen beyond the present.

El aura - Fabian Bielinsky, 2005 (Spain, Argentina, France). After so many times of planning the perfect heist and one day gets the chance to really get into the middle of one, what will you do? Will it still be as perfect as you planned it to be?

el proximo oriente Azuloscurocasinegro

El proximo Oriente - Fernando Colomo, 2006 (Spain). It’s no question that Spain today is multicultural and this film is a good and a comedic look when different cultures and religions collide.

Azuloscurocasinegro - Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, 2006 (Spain). Another wonderful movie about making decisions and the many choices that one has to face to make one’s dreams come true.

la noche de los girasoles los ultimos de filipinas

La noche de los girasoles - Jorge Sanchez-Cabezudo, 2006 (Spain). I just love the way this film is told. Events are narrated from the perspective of the different characters that are really interconnected.

Los ultimos de Filipinas - Antonio Roman, 1948 (Spain). This film is about the Siege of Baler during the last days of Spanish colonization in the country when a group of Spanish soldiers held it out in the church of Baler, Aurora refusing to surrender even when the country was already ceded to the United States. Its actually a propaganda film during the Franco era and filmed in the Mediterranean. There is only one screening of this film.

Series 51: Baguio City on a wet weekend

October 3rd, 2007 | 1 Comment

wetbaguio_blog.jpgFor a change, we headed to Baguio City for a brief stay two weekends ago. Not much was done as the weather was just uncooperative. Yes, Baguio City was wet as rains made its mark on and off. When temperatures are already cool, it was much made cooler with the somber weather. But it wasn’t disappointing. In fact, it wasn’t bad at all.

Series 51: Baguio City on a wet weekend is my third series on this wonderful city now starting in Binary Silver. This series consists of 6 photos scheduled in the next three weeks.
