Cinema One Originals 2007

December 7th, 2007

cinemaoneorig07.jpg The Cinema One Originals 2007 just concluded last weekend and showcased 5 exceptional digital films. This yearly film fest started in 2005 that introduced me to the thespic artistry of Irma Adlawan, who, together with John Arcilla wowed me in Sa North Diversion Road. Well, no controversial film here unlike back in ‘05 when Anak ng Tinapa and Dilim was not screened in SM Megamall because of its policy of not showing R-18 films. As a consequence, I was only able to watch 4 of the 6 titles.

The following year, I entirely missed it! Of the seven movies, I only got to watch Rekados when it was shown during this film fest. One thing I noticed though, why only five digital films this year? If 2005 had 6 and last year, 7, why not make it 8 this year? Or more? Were there some budgetary issues or did Creative Programs Incorporated (a subsidiary of ABS-CBN), the organizing outfit, just limited it to 5? By the way, the grant given to the qualifying film makers was increased from P700,000 to P1,000,000.

The awards ceremony was held last Saturday, 3 December, and guess what, expectedly as expected, Confessional garnered much of the awards.
