thinking of a film medium format camera

February 20th, 2008

I’m so fired up with Peter Bialobrzesky’s workshop on urban photography that I”m thinking of getting a film medium format camera, even if used. It seems that this type of photography in this part of the world is so unknown that exploring it will not only be good for my sanity but for my career as well. Anyway, I have to think about this more closely.

Okay, yan, pre. When I was in Advertising, medium format was the standard. While digital makes the production process more efficient, nothing can beat the sharpness and detail of 120mm. But it’s not hardware that truly differentiates the results of larger-format photography with 35mm. Approach and intent are what really brings magic to the images. I suggest the Mamiya 645 or the larger RB67. Myself, I’ve had my eyes on the Mamiya 7 for a very, very long time :)
