I just got a hold of Fassbinder’s Berlin Alexanderplatz!

July 30th, 2008 | No Comments

After having seen a DVD copy of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s monumental 15 1/2 hour work Berlin Alexanderplatz (1980) for quite some time from a supplier’s stock, I finally decided to buy it! I’ve been intrigued about this work, which was originally made for television in 13 episodes based on the book by Alfred Döbling. Come to think of it, it is longer than Lav Diaz’s Heremias but I don’t intend to watch it in one sitting. Maybe, a week or two.

First read about it in Time Magazine’s yearender picks and with just being introduced to the works of this German director, I am looking forward to watch this soon.

40! That’s how many movies and a short I’ve watched in June! The following are non-US productions.

Karaula, Adams Aebler and Drama/Mex are good while Seven Swords is gory but the effects and stunts are great. As for The Science of Sleep, well, I’m not too fond of real life and animation mixed together but its kind of interesting as to how the concept of reality and dreams mix together. Gael Garcia Bernal is such a wonderful actor here.

Chat gim (Seven Swords) -Tsui Hark, 2005 (China)
Adam’s Aebler (Adam’s Apples) -Anders Thomasjensens, 2005 (Denmark)
Drama/Mex - Gerardo Naranjo, 2006 (Mexico)
Karaula (Border Post) - Rajko Grlic, 2006 (Slovenia)
La Science des rêves (The Science of Sleep) - Michel Gondry, 2006 (France)

Short: Clara - Van Sowerwin, 2005 (Australia)

Wordcamp Philippines 2008!

July 17th, 2008 | 2 Comments

WordCamp Philippines I’m an avid Wordpress user for the past years now and in fact, this is my blogging platform of choice powering my five blogs: Langyaw (my primary blog), Rough Groove, Binary Silver, Salagubang and Simbahan. Thanx to nina, I got to know of the Wordcamp Philippines 2008, considered to be the first in Southeast Asia.

I’m very much interested to know more about Wordpress, especially making it as a simple and easy to design and administer content management system (CMS) of which I’ve been thinking of making one of my blogs as one.

This blogging event is organized by Mindanao Bloggers of which I’m a part of.
