How Smart steals your load

November 22nd, 2008

Send in MMS download promos inviting you to subscribe to that service while they automatically deduct from your load even if you’re not responding back or subscribing.

Even if you’ve already told the system not to send these ads.

That’s what happened to me. I was using my prepaid number yesterday morning, loaded P30 and sent four messages. By lunch, I received this Twilight movie MMS promo that downloaded a colored photo into my phone. About half an hour later, I checked my prepaid balance and P10 was already missing from my load. WTF! I was planning to use a full hour’s worth of mobile internet time but was left with just 30 minutes of use!

To think that I have already set the system not to send me promos and ads more than a few weeks ago but this still came through. I tried calling their not so Amazing Customer Hotline but in ten attempts, half didn’t connect, just dead air, four came through but no one’s answering and one finally got me the woman at the end of the line. When I told her my complaint, she said that I call back two hours after as they had a system enhancement, in short, a system problem. I should know, I worked in this company for nine years until two years ago. You just don’t do these enhancements during the day. That was around 2 PM.

I called back around 5 PM but either I can’t just connect or no one’s answering. I tried again by 10 PM and guess what, of my 7 attempts, three calls took more than 10 to 15 minutes with no one picking up; two dead air and two system busy. Attempts today proved futile.

What happened to their customer hotline service quality? Or there were just too many subscribers calling in at the same time complaining of stolen load? Perhaps this is a scam?

its frustrating. janus, okay lang sa yo pero I’ve been using the number for quite a number of years and don’t want to change it. Besides, i use it only for those times that I need not use my post paid line.

Never experienced BPI’s customer service but it’s good to know that feedback’s positive.

Same here – I am also very pleased with BPI, as well as Globe’s (when phoning customer complaints ), I find their website not user-friendly though.

That’s really really frustrating. I think the same “scam” goes for Globe.

Sadly Philippine companies in general have bad customer service– I’ve tried (and complained) to a lot as well… PAL, LBC, Banco de Oro, etc. On the contrary, I am really plesed with BPI’s phone customer service.
