The new look and purpose of BinarySilver.com

March 8th, 2009

The new look of binarysilver.com My photoblog Binary Silver is now sporting a new look as well as a new purpose. From a repository of image posts, I have reformatted it to be a repository of all the downloads that I am and will be offering to subscribers of my various blogs.

What will happen to the photos and posts? As of now, these are temporarily unavailable but will be brought back once I resolve some technical challenges or, if really needed, transferred to a new subdirectory.

The two-column blog theme that is used has two dominant colors: yellow and dark gray with their different shades as accents and highlights. One thing that can also be noticed is that the central part is off-center, which I think is interesting.

In the index page, a feature post banners the latest download on offer from one of my blogs and the previous or other downloads are displayed as a gallery just below it. Once you click on a specific post, the single page is bannered at the top with an intro paragraph just below the post title. A dropcap starts the actual post text and a smaller image, at 200 pixels width, of the download is floated to the right.

The post doesn’t really provide full information about the offered file but is just a short summary. A link to the actual description is provided at the end of the post. This theme utilizes custom fields and excerpts to make the banner post to work but doesn’t need specific plugins to work normally.
