Covering the La Naval canonical coronation centenary

October 17th, 2007 | 2 Comments

media-id.jpg Covering the centennial of the canonical coronation of the Nuestra Senora del Rosario La Naval de Manila at the Sto. Domingo Chuch in Quezon City for the coronation reenactment last 4 October and then the procession last Sunday is overwhelming. Overwhelming in a sense that it is quite tiresome and draining especially the procession. Despite having the media ID as official photographer gave me access to off limit places and thus good vantage points to document the action, I was literally exhausted with all the walking that after the activity, my blue shirt was sweat stained.

But being there, experiencing a great milestone and with all the faith and devotion of the people as well as the sacredness of the event, I was also ecstatic and happy. I can say that it was all worth the effort. Seen also at the event was Sidney Snoeck taking photos that I’m sure he will be posting in his blog soon.

I’m preparing a revised slide show of the two events and will be posting it soon. For the meantime, head over to estancabigas.com for a Soundslide presentation that I did for the 4 and 14 October events (reenactment and procession).

Series 51: Baguio City on a wet weekend

October 3rd, 2007 | 1 Comment

wetbaguio_blog.jpgFor a change, we headed to Baguio City for a brief stay two weekends ago. Not much was done as the weather was just uncooperative. Yes, Baguio City was wet as rains made its mark on and off. When temperatures are already cool, it was much made cooler with the somber weather. But it wasn’t disappointing. In fact, it wasn’t bad at all.

Series 51: Baguio City on a wet weekend is my third series on this wonderful city now starting in Binary Silver. This series consists of 6 photos scheduled in the next three weeks.

Series 49: Malate market vendors

August 7th, 2007 | No Comments

malatemarket_blog.jpg Series 49: Malate market vendors is now starting at Binary Silver. These are a series of photos taken during a lazy afternoon in a market near the nightlife mecca that is Malate in Manila. This was one of the assignments that I did for a documentary portrait photography workshop at Silverlens Gallery conducted by Kat Palasi a few months ago just before Lent.

While I don’t know these people, coming up to them and asking for their permission to have their photos taken was done with trepidation at first but once I realized that these vendors were accommodating and open, it became easier.

More photos are lined up for the coming days at my photoblog.
