World Press Photo in Manila

The winners of the 2007 World Press Photo, the annual prestigious contest in press photography is currently exhibiting here in Manila for its Philippine leg. Comprising about 200 stirring photos of the different topics and issues that are current and pressing, ranging from the destruction and effects of war, to sports, nature and many more.

Venues:

• The Podium - until the 8th of May
• Mall of Asia - 10 - 16 May
• The Block - 18 - 24 May

Catch it while you still can. This would be a great opportunity to see photojournalism at its best.

What kept me busy during the last Semana Santa or Holy Week?

Quezon: Decorated flagellants early morning don a beautiful headress made from leaves and flowers.

Semana Santa 07: Senakulo Kristo

I’ve just uploaded my Soundslide (demo use, yes, just registered it) Senakulo slideshow comprising 20 photos from a series of night shoot of a passion play in Evangelista St., Makati. Please click on the image to go to the webpage and click the PLAY button located at the bottom left corner. The slideshow is four minutes long with background senakulo sound recorded on the last day, 7 April with the typical tagulaylay rythm.

In Pampanga and Bataan

0215H and my slumber was interrupted as the now familiar alarm tone of my W850i broke the silence of the night. Well, other than the whir of the electric fan, that is. Just less than three hours sleep and I have to get up, take a shower and leave for Pampanga and Bataan to take photos of the facades of three churches: San Fernando and Angeles in Pampanga as well as a reshoot of Orani, Bataan. These are busy places, cities (those in Pampanga) wherein even before the break of dawn, the streets are already coming to life with jeepneys already abuzz to take passengers to their destinations. Places wherein if I have to wait for that specific time of the morning when the sun is at a beautiful position to cast its warm light at an angle, I won’t be able to provide a full frontal and solitary facade with nary a soul or a machine in front, unless I do post production work via Photoshop. While I can confidently say that I am very much capable doing this, there are limitations with doing this kind of work.
