During the pre New Year holiday rush, my family and me went to SM City here in Cebu for groceries and I was just awed at the newly opened (30 November 07) North Wing. Located at the back of the old mall, its spacious, spanking and just gorgeous. It’s a needed facelift to an old structure that has become overtly familiar.

The interior is really impressive and well designed. The ceiling’s height and width is well proportioned giving it an elegant touch. Its not too boxy and claustrophobic. When I first saw it from a narrow approach, it was like looking into a cavern because of its size. This is even better than the newly opened section in rival Ayala Center Cebu which is smaller and seemed to have been built as an afterthought.
I even prefer the interior to that of Trinoma in Quezon City which doesn’t impress me much except for its exterior, the sheer number of stalls and shops and the volume of people that it can attract.
One good thing, though, about this new section is the arrival of some brand shops from Metro Manila that have not yet made their Cebu presence. One of these is Powerbooks, a fave bookstore, that debuts in this mall.
For one who is based in Metro Manila, the shops are nothing new and nothing to be excited about. But for the architecture and design? Its impressive and is a notch higher than some upscale malls in Metro Manila and within Cebu itself. Now, I’m more curious of how SM City in Bacolod, which opened a few months ago looks like considering that the new additions to Henry Sy’s flagship malls are quite interesting in design.
Here is another post on this new add-on to the mall.
