What kept me busy during the last Semana Santa or Holy Week?

Decorated flagellants

Quezon: Decorated flagellants early morning don a beautiful headress made from leaves and flowers.

Kristo

Makati City: Tucked in one of the premier city’s many barangays, an almost 80 year old Senakulo is still being performed. My Senakulo portfolio.

Ritual of the dead

Paete, Laguna: The pre-hispanic Ritual of the Dead is performed on a centuries old Santo Intierro

Semana Santa 07: Senakulo Kristo

April 14th, 2007 | 2 Comments

senakulo.jpg

I’ve just uploaded my Soundslide (demo use, yes, just registered it) Senakulo slideshow comprising 20 photos from a series of night shoot of a passion play in Evangelista St., Makati. Please click on the image to go to the webpage and click the PLAY button located at the bottom left corner. The slideshow is four minutes long with background senakulo sound recorded on the last day, 7 April with the typical tagulaylay rythm.

My Semana Santa posts will be started next week.

Shell Maya closing

March 9th, 2007 | No Comments

shell.jpg

Shell Maya, that gasoline station that has become a landmark of sorts near the intersection of Buendia and Ayala Ave. will be folding up. From their banner:

After more than 40 years of service… it’s time to say goodbye. We would like to thank you by giving…

P2.00 Discount on fuels

March 5 - 19 Only!

The station will be demolished to pave way for a new building that will soon rise at that location. They will however transfer to Pasong Tamo cor. Herrera St. (now Rufino St.).

So motorists, P2.00 is too big a discount to pass up.

Miss Calendar Gay

In the run up to the local fiesta in our local barangay which has St. John Bosco as the patron saint (and a familiar one at that as I went to a Don Bosco school for my high school and college education) in the closing days of January, a Miss Calendar Gay was held in one of the streets one Friday night. Made of a makeshift stage, several contestants from various places around the metropolis as well as Laguna and even one, from Mindanao, competed. I have not yet seen this kind of alternative pageant and so decided to do some coverage, even at the sidelines.
