Series 59: Urbanscapes

October 13th, 2008 | No Comments

In time for the Mapping Invisible Cities exhibit that will open in Manila this 17 October, I am starting a new series in Binary Silver. Series 59: Urbanscapes is a series of photographs that I did for the Peter Bialobrzesky workshop early this year.

Images were taken in the Macapagal Avenue area near SM Mall of Asia that is fast transforing into a new destination for business and entertainment. The work presents the concept of “non places” in the Manila urban setting. These are familiar areas with their emerging developments but to the casual viewer, can apply anywhere in the metropolis.

Series 58: At a La Loma Slaughterhouse

September 6th, 2008 | No Comments

This new series at my photoblog, Binary Silver, was originally my assignment in my Diploma in Photojournalism which we submitted for discussion during our first on campus session.

La Loma in Quezon City is known as the lechon (roast pig) capital of Metro Manila. In one section of the locality, a few meters from the entrance to the biggest cemetery in the country, North Cemetery, one can find several establishments dedicated to the slaughter, preparation, roasting of pigs and to some extent, serving in a restaurant setting.

This series is ongoing at Binary Silver and consists of eight black and white shots, no red blood here, focusing on the preparation only.

Series 57: Cuyo and Agutaya

July 16th, 2008 | No Comments

Beached boat Coinciding with an ongoing series in my travel blog Langyaw, where I posted about my trip from Iloilo – Negros – Cuyo – Culion, are photos of Cuyo and Agutaya, remote islands between Panay and Palawan. Though the trip was brief, these lovely and forlorn places are a must go for the jaded adventurer/traveler.

Check out Binary Silver for this series of photos. Over at Langyaw, which is my primary blog now, are other off the beaten path travel accounts.

intransit_blog.jpg Travel is a passion.

Its not just getting to the destination that I revel in but, more importantly, being on the road delights me. It’s the sights, the smells, and the adventure of just heading to the undiscovered, to the unknown, or even the familiar where something new is always in store.

Series 55: In Transit is now starting at Binary Silver consisting of 15 black and white photos taken from diverse places: Tablas in Romblon, Quezon City, Makati City and Pasay City in Metro Manila, Culion in Palawan, Siocon in Zamboanga del Norte, San Jose in Nueva Vizcaya Ecija, Balaoan in La Union, Davao City, Lapulapu City in Cebu and Hongkong. This series will also celebrate my my most anticipated month of February when I just get a year older not only in life but in love.
