Series 17: People

October 10th, 2005 | 1 Comment

15 photos of people in black and white. This is the first installment taken in different places in the country started at Binary Silver:

Cebu
Boy soldiers - taken in Tabunok, Talisay City during this year’s Good Friday. While on my way to the highway to get a bus to the south and record the church activities there (Carcar and Sibonga) I happened to pass by boys who were donned in basic customes and performing Christ’s passion.

Yakult Girl and Mamalina - taken last year in Calamba Cemetery during the All Soul’s Day observance. Yakult Girl was waiting for customers when I spotted her while Mamalina was burning his grass to generate the smoke that believers say will cause the spirits of the dead to not follow the living to their homes. Smoking oneself is done before exiting the cemeteries.

Sea Gypsy 1 and 2 - taken during my last trip from Cagayan de Oro. These gypsies often meet the passenger ships in their motorized bancas and ask for money. They dive for the coins thrown to them.

Bro. Roberto Alcazar - taken in Argao when I went there to take photos of the church. I passed by the Mamac house, a 16th century structure dating to 1710 that used to be the quarters of priests while the famed rococo-baroque church was still constructed. Bro. Alcazar is the caretaker of this once proud house that is slowly deteriorating.

Enicka - my niece while playing inside the van from the airport going home

Fruit vendor - taken during this year’s Sinulog.

Olango Is.
Old lady - taken in Olango Is. off Cebu. I spotted this old lady on the way back to the base from our bird watching activity

Makati City
Herzy - taken last year when my colleague from Cebu and me had a training. It was already evening when we were already at the hotel when an earthquake happened. Shaken and fearful, we immediately headed for the flight of stairs and negotiated the 26 floors in 5 minutes. This was taken outside the hotel while we calmed ourselves and waited for advise from the hotel.

Quezon City
Deo - taken at a resto from a tiring yet inspiring immersion trip of Gawad Kalinga communities
