GO proclamation rally

February 26th, 2007 | No Comments

After changing venues three times in a week, the Genuine Opposition finally decided to have their proclamation rally at the historic Plaza Miranda. At first, they planned to have it in Makati then at a later date, when Erap was in his home after given a daypass from his house arrest, moved it to San Juan where the initial salvo of the Philippine revolution in 1896 was fired, incorporating it a historic meaning. However, as the place was deemed too small, Plaza Miranda, another historic venue infront of the Quiapo church was finally decided to be the best place.

Rosero group to push through US trip

February 26th, 2007 | No Comments

Despite the pronouncements of Barbara Nichols, head of the CGFNS that their decision on barring nurses who passed the controversial June 2006 licensure examinations without taking parts 3 and 5 is final, I’m aghast to learn that PRC chairperson Leonor Rosero and her group would still push through with their trip to the US to explain. Whatever they say would just be of no use and a blatant waste of taxpayers money. Why not that they work for the expedient retake and even resign because of the fiasco? After more than a few months, still, no one has been prosecuted.

Running priest is back

February 23rd, 2007 | No Comments

Fr. Robert Reyes, better known as the running priest, is back from China for a short break. The very much outspoken priest who, once upon a time, exorcised the supposed “evils” in Congress but more of a publicity stunt was at the EDSA People Power monument to fast and pray. Doing a lotus position with eyes closed, this time, the priest is shunning interviews. What a change! It must be the weather in China or, at last, the priest has come to terms with his outspokeness, often bordering on theatrics, after being shipped out of the country upon the advice of his Bishop. But I don’t think so. If one needs to fast and pray on the start of Holy Week that is Ash Wednesday, can’t one just do it alone without the glaring eyes of media? Why so at the people power monument?

Alas! Nothing has changed. Action, still is, speaks louder than words.

Chavit calendars

While at the Partas terminal along Aurora Blvd. in Cubao, this Chavit calendars were given along with my ticket and change during a recent trip to La Union. This is just one of the campaign materials that are very much common during these days. A look at the streets, posters of the different candidates are pasted all over even in places not designated as common poster areas by the Comelec.

Erap wants to leave detention to campaign

February 20th, 2007 | No Comments

Deposed president Estrada’s lawyers were supposed to urgently file with the Sandiganbayan, where his plunder trial is being heard. Their plea: to permit the deposed president and have him released and hit the campaign trail for the newly renamed opposition senatorial candidates group, the Genuine Oppostion. They reasoned that:

Obviously, he’s frustrated because he wants to be part of this process… President Estrada, presumed innocent, has the right to participate in this constitutional process…

…he’s a national figure… and he should be free to campaign.
