Update: She has already resigned based on a report from GMA News.
Never have I read so scathing remarks on the blogosphere, primarily Philippine, as what has been said, howled and thrown on this Malu Fernandez fiasco that has been raging like wildfire for a few days now.
Come to think of it, a self proclaimed diva and bitch, a socialite (?) wannabe or probably nouveau riche, flaunting her wealth, talking about her supposed jetset adventures and ranting about her travails in flying economy (as she writes, to save money) on her trip to Greece and getting bruised in the “small seats” of Emirates economy class commits major harakiri by debasing OFWs and those of lower social standing than hers. This, by justifying it as a dab on being humorous and complaining that people could not understand her acerbic wit.
Unfortunately, her attempts on being tongue-in-cheek, as she puts it, is just way out of bound and downright insensitive that it has been met with a wave, no, a major tsunami of reactions (mostly negative), insults, calls of boycotts to the paper who published her article and petitions against her, even a planned full page ad in a major broadsheet, emanating from various blogs and emails. While it is making the major rounds of the internet, its only a matter of time that this will be picked up by mainstream media.
While I personally don’t approve of what she wrote, I am also against at the way people are reacting negatively. It is just not right to spew invectives at her, call her names and make fun of her physical condition.
While being in the media is an honor in itself, the person granted to wield that power should be responsible as well. But equally so, especially in the heat of the moment, I just hope that people think first before they react and stick to the issues that are raised against this person.
