Migration to Pixelpost from Wordpress

July 20th, 2005 | 2 Comments

NOTE: I have long switched back to Wordpress for the photoblog and doesn’t use Pixelpost anymore. Also, Ramin Mehran’s script doesn’t seem to work anymore.

Pixelpost, in the end, proved to be a much better photoblogging tool than current implementations of Wordpress like Pictorialis. Its much simpler and has a great community of developers as well as users that make it a viable alternative. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have anything against Wordpress which is a great regular blogging software. Its just that I haven’t found a template that will fit my photoblogging needs.

I started testing Pixelpost Friday night and until Saturday, while I was successful in installing it, Ramin Mehran’s, script, Import from Wordpress to Pixelpost just seemed not to work without errors. I was already getting exasparated that I just posted at the Pixelpost forum about my problem as well as emailed Ramin. Nice thing about it was that he was quick to reply. Since I still experienced problems with it, I then had him access my server files to take a look on what’s the problem. Fortunately, he has found it, made adjustments, and voila! My photoblog, Binary Silver was now migrated to Pixelpost. I just have to make some minor adjustments as some comments were repeated on all posts.

To Ramin Mehran, one of the developers of Pixelpost 1.4, my wholeheartfelt thanx for your help. You’re a godsend!

Pixelpost?

I’ve been photoblogging for a few months now at Binary Silver but for a few weeks, I’ve been mulling of making a major revision. Wordpress is great for blogging but not really for photoblogging. I don’t have a background on PHP/MySQL and Pictorialis, well, it seems good too, but I’m mulling of jumping into Pictorialis. Now that, is a real photoblogging tool.

But is there a Wordpress importer?

www.erap.ph

And so, Erap has set up his own website to have a venue so as to counter the governement’s “alleged” propaganda and distortion of the truth. Visitors can even write to the “President” and read columns and articles from loyalist newspapers. Unfortunately, my favorite, the Eraptions, his collection of jokes and malapropisms does not function.

Okay, at least the guy is still optimistic. Hope springs eternal. But he’s gota move on. He’s unfortunately stuck!

My broadband is down

May 26th, 2005 | No Comments

I came home last night from another dinner with my parents, this time at the Seafood Wharf at the Boardwalk near the Quirino Grandstand and when I tried to connect to the Internet, nothing happened. The local area connection indicated a yellow exclamation mark and it just said that there is no connection. Called Meridian (*1888) and the helpful tech support suggested to reset the POE (power on ethernet), a device that connects my notebook computer to the customer premise equipment. We did this three times but it would not just work. The POE might be busted, I pressume. A field technician will check it today.

No connection. No internet. How such a little disruption can make me helpless to a nightly routine. I can’t blog. I can’t check my Flickr (of which I’ve been addicted to since the comments are great and looking at other’s photos is such a palliative). Can’t check on some else’s blogs. Can’t send and receive emails. Whew. How technology made me so dependent on it.

Times like these, need to do some distractions. I instead prepared the Provisional Checklist of Philippine Cerambycidae that me and Eduard Vives is making.

A boring Sunday

May 22nd, 2005 | No Comments

0925H, a Sunday morning and I’m bored. I just finished burning my RAW photos taken during the Pahiyas and Gawad Kalinga Immersion trips. I checked my photoblog, Binary Silver, and only one comment from Deb on my I-gizmo challenge entry. Flickr, not too many comments and no emails from my Flickr inbox. I checked my POP mail but Paul hasn’t replied yet on when he will be coming over to the country. Outside, its sunny and hot. Come this afternoon and my room’s will be steaming hot. A trip to the mall might be planned. Maybe, I’ll just go to the gym before lunch and have a cardio for an hour or two.

For the meantime, “O” by Damien Rice (enhanced and limited edition) is playing. First heard his song “Blower’s Daughter” (check the link for a full song) in the movie Closer and I was hooked. Not your very famous singer but his songs evoke love and feelings. When I checked Tower Records and Music One, they had no stock available. Good thing that I was told at Tower Records Glorietta that they’ve just ordered and I immediately reserved a copy. A week later, two copies arrived and I dropped by to get one. This is just great music.
