A dark afternoon

July 25th, 2006 | 1 Comment

The skies over is just dark as hard and driving rain as well as strong winds continued to pour down and howl. Glenda (the typhoon) might already be far away but its effect, inducing the monsoon, still continued while, as I was told, down south, its just sunny. Classes have been suspended at all levels already as some low lying areas of the metropolis and surrounding provinces already are flooded.

Me? Still here in the office ready to press the button that will usher in a new phase of my life. A few hours from now, that button would finally be pressed to start the wheels of change. Quite risky. Really risky but now is the time to take a chance. To take the plunge to the unknown. To the new horizon of which I am comfortable to say that I will, at the end of the day, weather and conquer it.

I’m now ready to face a new life. I’m ready to pursue and fulfill my dreams and get my groove back.

Finally!

An unexpected development

Just when I’m at the point of making a major career decision, a move that will forever change my future here comes an exciting offer from my department head and manager to be a part, though temporary, of a group that can put into good use my learning in the 4 semesters that I’ve had at AMA Davao for Cisco CCNA. Well, I’ve been putting off for some time the actual taking of the certification exams but with this new assignment, I might be forced to really take it for good. From Nationwide Optimization, I’m now assigned with Core – IP Planning and Engineering specifically for the IP Backbone activities for Metro Manila. Seems an exciting development, and one that I’ve not expected to happen. Frankly, I’ve been wishing to be a part of this group but that seems elusive until that afternoon meeting last week, Thursday. I started to report to this group just yesterday and seems that I can learn and enjoy it a lot.

Seems my plans for a career shift will be put on hold for the moment. I’ll give this a few months and assess from there.

Still in vacation mode

June 13th, 2006 | No Comments

I’m now back in Makati and working today. Whew! Really, I’m still in vacation mode. Would’ve still wanted to just lay down on my bed and let the day pass by. Or go internet browsing and download using bit torrent. Or just having coffee, photo shoot with or without other fllickr members.

Well, the burial was adjusted to last Wednesday and I’m kind of getting over it na.

8 years

8 years of working. And I don’t want to celebrate it. I’m now here in Cebu for a few days of leave and rest. Back home again. To eat and indulge in food. Stay at my room. Music. And just enjoy my niece as she calls me “KU,” short for unkul (uncle). Do some photography. Sleep. Read the papers.

This evening, I’ll be travelling to Cagayan de Oro to get to Bukidnon to get my beetles. I miss travel.

Cebu. Home.

Another trip to Davao

July 2nd, 2005 | 1 Comment

I was supposed to be in Tagaytay yesterday but a sudden change of schedule, a workshop in Davao, given at a short notice last Wednesday that me and my team was in the thick of things and cramming to gather all relevant data and assemble a presentation. Friday, midnight, I was still polishing the presentation and making a checklist of slides yet to be included. Slept less than an hour and my alarm went off. 0245H. Time to wake up and prepare for my flight 0500H. At the plane, it didn’t help. Still can’t sleep that when I arrived in Davao, I was not in the best of condition but I just have to do it.

Anyway, had a meeting with the Sales team in the morning. It was good that I still managed to stay awake and not fall asleep. 1400H, after lunch we arrived at the office from Nanay Bebeng’s Restaurant and our workshop session started. Our department head talked about the business but it eventually ventured into the current political typhoon that we were able to start with the workshop proper at around 1600H.

1600H. Its way too late to start for the workshop but I just have to do it. My manager is here and have to deliver. 60 slides and by 1900H, the presentation went on smoothly. Answers were questioned and the Operations team were able to grasp the important details.

Whew! Next week, it will be South Luzon’s turn followed by Visayas the following week.
